My Fall Bucket List
Friends, Autumn is finally upon us! It is officially, according to the calendar and science, finally, for real, fall. This means my closet is moving back to fall + winter. This means I am allowed to bake all of the fall treats. And as you already know, MY HOUSE IS DECORATED FOR FALL!
In celebration of this beautiful season, I want to share with you my fall bucket list! This has been going around in the blogging world and I thought that it was such a cute idea! Just to make some easy to attain goals for this season to make the time really count! Most of my list is things I will be doing to spend time with my husband or my family! I think it is so important to spend time with those we love all year round but also during the holiday season. It is crazy to think that the holidays are here but they are, Halloween is around the corner and Thanksgiving and Christmas will come quickly following! The time will fly and there are just a few things I want to do.
//Picnic in the Mountains//
About 30 miles away from where we live is a beautiful mountain! It has hundreds of Aspen trees that turn the most wonderful colors in the fall. I am dying to take a Saturday picnic with my husband to see the trees and feel the crisp air. We will probably bring the dogs a long too!
//Fall Movie Marathon//
When I first made this list I was only going to put one movie marathon but then I realized there are too many! The first is the Harry Potter Series in October! We'll watch them leading up to Halloween. The second is the Lord of the Rings leading up to Thanksgiving, and the last is all of my favorite Disney Halloween movies! These include Twitches & Twitches Too, Halloween Town, and Hocus Pocus! I can't wait. These movies make me feel so reminiscent and happy!
//Hike//
The weather in fall makes hiking so enjoyable! It is not so hot that you feel like you are dying and it isn't so cold that you get frostbite. Plus the sound of leaves crunching beneath your feet is the best sound ever!
//Cut Firewood with Family//
This is sort of a family tradition of ours. My family goes up to the mountains to chop down some (dead) trees to use for firewood! We eat sunflower seeds, usually there are fresh baked cookies, and we enjoy nature while getting in a good workout!
//Bake pumpkin recipes//
Pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin roll, pumpkin spice everything! I'm not a huge fan of pumpkin, but I am when it comes to the fall!
//Have a get away weekend with hubby//
We had a fun getaway weekend over Labor Day and it made me want another one immediately! I am not sure where we will go but we have a long weekend in October. Perhaps we can rent a cabin for the night somewhere or go to the Grand Canyon!
// Paint or Carve Pumpkins//
We did this last year (painted + carved) and it was a blast! I painted mini pumpkins but I think that I will paint some big pumpkins this year instead of carving them and set them on our porch to add some color.
//Have a bonfire//
I don't know the logistic of this one but it sounds so magical and cozy! We don't have a fire pit and it makes me nervous having a fire close to the house, but maybe we will do it anyway.
//Send letters to friends + family//
I love the idea of sending real mail to tell people that I am thankful for them. Especially with Thanksgiving around the corner! I am also planning on sending some care packages with baked goods to a few friends mid-semester to help them through midterms.
//Make Chilli//
Chili and baked potatoes is my favorite fall meal! It helps you stay warm and lets be honest it is so freaking delicious!
//Read a good book//
I haven't read a really good book since the Spring! I bought two, "Where the Crawdads Sing" by Delia Owens (It was on Reese Witherspoon's book club!) and "Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott. I decided to start with Little Women because as I read it just felt so cozy and warm.
//Wear fall fashion//
This one has to be the most obvious and easily attainable goals I have! Fall fashion is where I feel most comfortable and myself and I am so happy it is here again! I have been slowly picking up a few fall pieces and I am hoping to get a chance to go to a thrift store and pick up a few more pieces. I will be sharing those soon!
//Decorate our porch//
I want to do this with some of the pumkins I paint! We have a screened in porch with a homemade bench and I will definitely be adding to what I have already!
//Drink Autumn Drinks//
Pumpkin Spice Lattes, Chai Lattes, and Apple Cider! These all taste like fall in a cup and are the easiest way to feel cozy this time of year. In fact, as soon as I get off work I am heading to Starbucks for a moment of treat yoself!
//Visit a National Monument or National Park//
Over Labor Day we went to Mesa Verde National park and picked up a big National Parks Passport Book. Every park you visit, you get to put a stamp in your book! It is so fun and creates memories for us as newlyweds and is something we can continue as we have children. I would like to visit one more Park this fall! We have a National Monument close by and it would be a fun day trip.
// Fall Crafts with the Girls//
If you didn't know, I nanny two little girls + I am so excited to pick up some fall craft supplies at Hobby Lobby and do them together. Especially the Leaves on the Tree stating what we are thankful for! It is such a cute idea and teaches the kids to be thankful. I also can't wait to teach them about the first Thanksgiving! Maybe even paint some pumpkins with them (even though it would be a mess, it would be worth it).
What's on your fall bucket list? Let me know!
